In 1958, four teenagers approached Paul Colaluca and asked for his help in forming a dance band in the likeness of Glenn Miller. Thinking the idea was a crazy one, he sent the teens off with the mission of recruiting five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones, a bass, drums, guitar and a piano. He didn't plan on seeing them again.
One of the key elements that has helped the Esquires maintain its reputation for playing quality music for over 60 years is our teaching program. The Esquire Music Foundation is a state and federally registered nonprofit organizationh all donations are tax deductible. There are no fees or dues to be in our program.
Since 1958, the Esquire Music Foundation has been committed to inspiring and supporting the next generation of musicians by teaching and celebrating big band music and the great American Songbook. In the long, lively 60-year history of the Esquire Music Foundation, the band experienced the first complete halt of performances and education programs.

First proper grown up gig since the pandemic. So great to have live music again and on the doorstep too. Staff were great, dinks were sensibly priced and the sound was good too. We saw Everything Everything on the big stage and a few days later we went back and saw my son's band @Alignmentsuk on the support bill for @Feelshame.

Love Bedford Esquires music venue, always a good atmosphere and great acoustics. However, be warned if you want to pay cash on the door to get into a gig, bring cash. You can pay for drinks with a card but not get cashback. The supermarket round the corner's cash machine doesn't work, nor does the train station one. Nearest one we could find working is at the bus station down the road. Missed most of the band I wanted to see running around trying to get cash out to get in to see them.

So good to have Bedford Esquires back after the pandemic. The staff have taken the opportunity to make considerable changes to the venue whilst closed, including new outdoor areas, redecoration, refurbished bathrooms and, crucially, air con in the main room. It was a good venue before, now it's a great venue.
