The Rollercade dates from the 1950s and was originally called Northporte Rollercade. Its name was shortened in 1984. The iconic sign out front, designed by Lionel Sosa in 1958, sports five huge brightly lit neon circles spelling "SKATE", leaving no doubt what activities take place beneath them. The Rollercade has provided generations of families with roller-skating, thumping music, and plenty of bruised knees.
San Antonio's premiere roller skating facility seems to be frozen in time in a heavy 70s roller disco theme, complete with neon lights and trippy magic-carpet day-glo swirls.

Me and my friend get to rollercade and it went very smooth. Mind you it was my very first time here. I get inside to pay the guy was cool and some other guy came up behind him telling me I couldn't wear a crop top and I had to change my shirt. I obviously respected it and my friend had to go back out to get me a shirt. As I was inside waiting I notice a whole bunch of girls with crop tops as well and even a girl in straight up booty shorts.
I got upset and sat there wondering why I wasn't allowed to wear one. My friend comes back with a shirt and I brought it up to him and he told me not to worry about it if they were gonna be rude. My friend went to skate for like a minute then comes back saying let's get out of here. Turns out no airpods, the dj that day was annoying as he was telling everybody where to be every 2 secs, no going fast, and discrimination against who could wear a crop top and who can't. we had only been in there for ten minutes and we went up front to leave and ask for a refund.
The guy was very rude and for us being there only ten minutes 20$ had gone to waste. Really don't recommend this place if you like being yourself and doing your own thing.

This is an amazing roller rink and in my opinion the best one in San Antonio! There is food, a photo booth, a few claw games, lockers to put your things in, and restrooms. I have hosted and attended many birthday parties here, since the Rollercade also has party rooms you can reserve. Overall, I just love this place!

Our family absolutely LOVES Rollercade! My husband and I have been rollerskating there since we were in elementary school and now take our children there to skate! Going to Rollercade has been an awesome family activity that we can all enjoy not to mention the nostalgia we feel every time we walk in there! We also love that it's family owned by a San Antonio family that opened it in the late 1950's-early 1960's (I believe that's accurate) and is now run by that same couple's grandchildren!
I mean, how many local family businesses can say that?! We will continue to have our kids' birthday parties there and patron Rollercade as long as we can physically still skate! Thank You Rollercade!

I have a very specific memory of The Rollercade - "Family Owned & Operated since 1959!" - from 1978 when I was dragged there by my mother for Jimmy Kuykendall's 11th birthday party - Jimmy kinda scared me, he was four years older than me and was the neighbor's son from a previous marriage who only came down on the weekends during the summers - he smoked cigarettes and was always driving his little dirt bike around the neighborhood (and also down the street to the Malibu Grand Prix, his favorite hangout, where he held court) and if you messed with Jimmy (which I never did) you'd end up with a black eye, he also had several girlfriends (I was still scared of girls) - so anyway, two of Jimmy's girlfriends showed up to the Rollercade for his birthday party and pretty quickly got into an actual fist fight over him, lots of hair-pulling and scratching (my first "cat fight?") - one eventually won out over the other and then her and Jimmy locked hands and slow-skated under the spotlight to Linda Ronstadt's big hit of '78 "Ooh Baby Baby" - it all felt like something from a teenage movie and I knew in that moment that I would never be as cool as Jimmy Kuykendall.

We arrived right at 2pm when it opened and it had a line out the door. There were several birthday parties all starting at 2pm so that's probably why it was so crowded. The music was a nice blend of country, hip hop, 80s and Latino mix. It was just extremely crowded, like elbow to elbow - difficult to navigate and extremely loud music made it almost impossible to hear anyone.
The staff was friendly, it costs $10 to get in and $4 to $6 for skates but you can bring your own skates. They are also the only roller rink in San Antonio to offer skate mates. No other place even allows you to bring your own skate mate so this is a plus! Prices at the concessions were pretty reasonable: $2 for pops, they sold small pizzas for $11. We may come back but at a less crowded time of day

I seen a review recently since there happened to be a fight at this rink. Although this happened, management handled it very professionally. My friend visits this rink religiously and always has a great time. She has learned to skate here, and they have always treated her right! This is a great and safe location for family and children! I will continue to to recommend this rink to anyone looking to skate in San Antonio.

I chose to go here after reading the positive reviews. We went on a Tuesday during Christmas break and they had discounted pricing. I like the place and will go back. The rink is huge and the facility is attractive. Every staff member who I spoke to was very polite. They have a great selection of drinks and snacks at the snack bar. The music was good.
I would suggest going before dark if you have little kids. We were there for many hours. The crowd turned from mostly families during day light to mostly teens in the evening. It also got extremely crowded, cops were there for security and they started searching bags. I did find the dress code rules strange.no beanie hats, but people were wearing bandanas at night. WTH?

This is the place to be in SATX. So much fun here. 75$ bucks for entrance and skate rental on a Monday night for. Party of 5. Not a bad deal at all. We stayed for just a little over 3 hours and it it weren't for the swollen knees and ankles we totally would have closed the place out. We are totally getting memberships and they have a skate shop In There where you can buy your own skates.
We leave don't tell Dr. Foochie about this place because he will say that it's too much fun and a great representation of American freedom and would want to shut the place down!

Very rude employee who wore a referee shirt was playing the music and helping people who had fallen. He talked down to me because of my age. I simply asked weather drinks were allowed on the rink because I was tired of going back and forth to drink my ice and water. He answered me "absolutely not" sternly like a teacher would. This condescending attitude ruined the light atmosphere.
A simple "no ma'am we don't allow drinks" would have been fine. I understand the policy completely but didn't need that rude encounter. Overall, the music was average and it costs too much to get your own dj. The skates don't really have ankle support. Usually, blades tie up all the way to the top of the scare but these don't. Easy to break your ankle if you don't know what your doing. The other employees were very nice.

Great vibes here. The floor is busy every time we have went. Good snack bar, friendly staff, and cold AC. A mix of all types of skaters. Family friendly, but more advanced skaters here as well. Super fun to watch the talent. They have lockers for your personal items. Adult night on Wednesdays. Will definitely keep coming back.

I love this place! We are new to S.A. and we now go skating every Friday. They have a skate shop with skates galore.even the Creme Dela creme of skates. I bought my first pair of Moxy skates from there the purple shade ones. I tricked them out with neon green wheels that they had in there and the neon green shoe strings. This place is definitely the place to be in a Friday Night.with a fun atmosphere and very friendly staff.its safe with security at the door.

I actually enjoyed this skating rink. Nice crowd everyone had on their mask. I was able to get the skate helper for my two year old. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because the bathroom stalls were really tiny. Like I'm big but not that big it's not a good idea for a bigger person or someone who freak out in tight spaces.
The dJ had enforce the rules almost after ever song which was pretty annoying. They did not have an pizzas at this location but was offering small box pizzas for $4. But enough about what I didn't like. My 3 month old baby enjoyed the lights. Literally the entire skating rink was clean! I also really appreciate the officer on duty, he was really nice to every family that walked or out of the skating rink.

Adult skate night on Wednesdays. (7:30-10) The music is ok but it's a great place to skills practice (in the middle). They have skate rentals if needed. The floor is well kept for being original and they have new carpeting. Not many staff on hand but that's understandable because of COVID. Masks are required when not skating. Glad there's a place to get out for entertainment and exercise!

My daughter loves roller skating. We always go to rollercade when we skate even though I live closer to another rink. We come here because of the great service from entry, skate rental, and concessions. Very young staff but well trained. The facility is well maintained. Always clean and floor is leveled and maintained. The facility has a great size that allows for many people to be on the floor at one time. Sunday is family skating day and gets pretty packed. Only improvement I would ask for is better snacks. The nachos are $6 and it's nothing more than chips and cheese in a plastic container. I will continue to come here.
